Real Things For Real Life
Moving once a year for the past four years forced me to look critically at the things I carried along. Real Things For Real Life is a system of bedroom furniture created out of necessity during the moving process. Constructed almost entirely out of sheet goods and other accessible materials, the pieces are easily adaptable to different spacial constraints and are very maintainable.
**This is not meant to be a perfect solution for bedroom furniture but more a reflection of my own tastes/ experience.

bed
Focusing on its ability to move as much as how it performs stationary, the bed is made from two full sheets of plywood. The three sled-like rectangles are joined by two horizontal faces making it so the bed can be broken down into various stages. Depending on how much space is needed, the bed can be broken into flat sheets. The low platform dimension comes from enjoying sleeping close to the ground, but needing a more deliberate space for sleeping than having a mattress on the floor.

closet
Following the same motifs as the bed, the closet is built around its ability to be broken down and reassembled. Its based around a set of brackets I had found in an apartment I was living in at one point. These brackets let me easily shrink or expand the amount of space that the closet would use. The hangers where made from the off-cuts of skateboards. I figured if I made myself a set of hangers, I would be limited to that type, and could only have as many pieces of clothes as I could hang. So ultimately I wouldn’t have more clothes then I needed.

crate
The crates started out as a way to hold a set of bottles I had made. But as soon as I came up with a pattern that I liked, I just kept making them. They can be put together quickly as needed, and are extremely useful for almost anything. They became stools, tables, storage, and a part of my closet system.
